The New York Liberty arrive in Seattle tonight as 11.5-point favorites, and the game turns on a matchup that feels larger than the spread: Jonquel Jones against Dominique Malonga. Jones is the veteran center and former MVP who gives New York its interior edge. Malonga is the second-year scorer who can make that edge look a lot smaller in a hurry.

Wilson still found ways to create, finishing with five assists, but the setup showed how New York can squeeze elite interior scorers when its zone is working. That is the same lane Jones can affect on the other end, and it is the same lane Seattle has to attack through Malonga.
Seattle enters at 3-15 and on an 11-game skid, which is why an 11.5-point line does not look out of place. But the Storm have also gone 5-3 ATS over their last eight games, a reminder that a team can keep covering even while losing too often to stop the slide. Malonga’s recent scoring burst adds another wrinkle: she has gone for 28 and 37 points in two of her last three games, and before that spike she had at least two assists in four straight games. New York’s zone has been a problem for rival centers all season, prompting 4.2 assists per game from that spot, so the question is not whether Seattle will get chances. It is whether Malonga can turn them into enough clean points to keep pace.
Tonight’s result will not settle the bigger picture, but it should answer whether New York’s interior control travels as well as it did against Las Vegas, and whether Malonga can turn one marquee night into something more than a bright spot inside a long skid.
