Dez Bryant has pushed Shedeur Sanders into the center of fresh trade chatter, saying the QB should get out of Cleveland and that the New Orleans Saints would be a great fit. Bryant also said he believes Sanders is a franchise quarterback, putting a public stamp on speculation that has followed the young QB into Cleveland Browns training camp.
The comments landed this week as Sanders has fallen into a stalemate with Deshaun Watson ahead of training camp, keeping his future a live topic even without any confirmed move. Bryant’s message was blunt: “I think he’s a franchise QB and getting him out of Cleveland will be a plus for him,” he wrote on social media, before adding that “the Saints would be a great fit for him!”
That pitch carries some weight because it came from Bryant, who built a decorated career with the Dallas Cowboys, earned an All-Pro nod and three Pro Bowl selections, and knows what front-line QB pressure looks like. He also had a brief stop with the Saints that lasted just one practice session, which makes his public call for Sanders in New Orleans more personal than theoretical.
Still, the fit is not as clean as the post makes it sound. The Saints seem to have a good thing going with Tyler Shough in Year 2, and Kellen Moore benched Spencer Rattler for Shough last year. The franchise also did not play a single game in prime time last year, which undercuts the idea that it is sitting around waiting to make a splash move at QB. If New Orleans wanted Sanders last year, it would have drafted him last year.
Sanders’ rookie-year numbers add another layer to the debate. He was consistently ranked worst among his peers, which is why the trade talk keeps circling back to whether Cleveland is the right place for him at all. For now, though, there is no sign of a deal, and Bryant’s post reads more like a forceful opinion than evidence that the Cleveland Browns or the New Orleans Saints are preparing to act.
