’s final 2-round NBA mock draft put Jayden Quaintance at No. 28 to the Brooklyn Nets, a late projection that keeps him in Round 1 while showing how much his health has shifted the conversation around him.
That matters now because the 2026 NBA Draft is here, and teams are making their final calls on talent versus risk. Quaintance, once viewed by many mock drafts as a safer first-round name and even a lottery possibility, is still drawing interest for the kind of size and movement that can change a front line. But the uncertainty around his knee has pushed the debate into the open.
Jeremy Woo wrote that teams have stayed unclear about Quaintance’s floor, with some speculating that health could push him out of the first round. He also noted that Quaintance did not earn a green room invitation, a sign that some teams are still sorting out how much confidence they have in his draft night range. Even so, the pull is obvious: teams like his talent and physical tools as a vertical spacing 5-man, and there is still enough enthusiasm around him that it is hard to see him falling all the way out of Round 1.
The concern is not just that he had ACL surgery in March 2025 after tearing the ligament at Arizona State. It is what that surgery has meant since then. Quaintance played in just four games at Kentucky last season because of precautions around the injury, and multiple team sources fear the knee could cost him time next season as well. That kind of uncertainty can matter as much as the medical file itself, because it changes how a team plans for the 2025-26 NBA season and whether it is willing to wait into the 2026-27 NBA season for the payoff.
Brooklyn may be the cleanest fit if he goes in the first round. Woo wrote that the Nets could have the patience and developmental runway to roster him, which is often the difference for a player whose upside is clear but whose availability is not. Quaintance’s landing spot will come down to each team’s comfort with that balance, and if Brooklyn passes, the most likely outcome is that another first-round team decides the reward is still worth the risk.
