The Raptors could have Myles Turner on their radar if the Bucks decide to start clearing out veterans, a move that would turn one of Milwaukee’s biggest recent signings into a trade chip almost as quickly as he arrived. Michael Grange of Sportsnet said Toronto could be interested if the Bucks keep dealing, and Turner’s name now sits at the center of that possibility.
The timing matters because Turner is not a cheap or marginal piece. He signed a four-year, $109MM contract with the Bucks last season and still has three years and $83.8MM left on the deal, which means any trade would be about more than curiosity. It would be about whether a team wants to absorb a major salary for a center whose profile, at least on paper, still draws attention.
That profile is the reason the Raptors keep coming up. Grange said Turner would likely fit Toronto’s current roster better than Jakob Poeltl because he brings floor spacing along with rim protection. Turner averaged 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.6 blocks in his first season in Milwaukee, a step down from his last season with Indiana, when he posted 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.0 blocks while shooting 48.4% and hitting 2.1 threes per game. The contrast is important: Toronto would not be buying peak production, but a player whose skill set can still change how a defense and offense function together.
Poeltl is the obstacle in that equation. He is set to make $19.5MM next season before a three-year, $84MM extension begins, with the first two years fully guaranteed and the final season partially guaranteed. That structure makes him hard to move, which is why Grange framed the question bluntly: what made them give that deal to Poeltl? If Toronto wants Turner, it may need Milwaukee to keep going down the path of selling rather than just listening, and that is still the open part of the story.
For now, the clearest read is that this is less a finished trade market than a test of how far the Bucks are willing to go after the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes appeared to be nearing a close. If Milwaukee keeps wheel-and-dealing, Turner becomes one of the most realistic names to watch. If not, the Raptors may be left with the same problem they already have: a center who is difficult to move, and a better fit that may never become available.
