Julius Randle left off Timberwolves' veteran target list as Morant questions linger

The Minnesota Timberwolves' confirmed list of veteran trade targets this spring did not include Ja Morant, narrowing the names Minnesota has openly discussed as it prepares for offseason roster changes.

That matters now because the Wolves have been linked to several stars, and the latest reporting from Jon Krawczynski put five names on the record: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kyrie Irving, Trey Murphy III, Josh Giddey and Derrick White. Morant was not one of them, even though some fans have treated him as a dream target and his name has hovered around Minnesota's search for help.

Krawczynski's wording was careful. He said the Wolves had discussed those veterans this spring and added that interest in a player does not mean any potential trade has ever been close. In other words, the list shows who Minnesota has been willing to talk about, not who it has actually been near to acquiring.

That is where Morant becomes the interesting omission. The Athletic had previously reported that Minnesota had shown some level of interest in him, but the earlier reporting never made clear how serious that interest was or whether it was still current. The absence of his name from the confirmed list leaves two possible readings: either he is part of the unnamed group Krawczynski called many more, or he has slid off the board entirely.

For now, the cleaner read is that Morant is not being pushed publicly as a priority while Minnesota sorts through a larger offseason plan. Julius Randle is still part of the broader conversation around roster change, but on the evidence available, Morant is not one of the names the Timberwolves have chosen to stand behind by name. If that changes, it will likely come only after Minnesota decides whether its next move is a veteran swing, a deeper reset or something in between.
