Micron Technology stock rose 3% on Monday and was on pace to reach a fresh record as investors moved into the name ahead of earnings on Wednesday. The rally extended a run that has already sent MU up roughly 360% in the past six months.
That surge is drawing attention because Micron has become a key read on memory demand tied to AI inference, and traders want to know whether the market for DRAM can keep tightening. The company is also coming off an all-time high on Thursday, part of a broader chipmaker advance that has kept memory names in focus.
The latest push picked up steam after UBS analyst Melissa Weathers raised her price target to $1,500 per share. By that measure, the target sits about 7.1% above where MU was trading on Monday, using the stock's 3% gain as the latest marker. Weathers said demand for DRAM is still set to vastly outpace supply growth in the coming years, driven by more memory-intensive AI workloads.
That is the reason the move matters now. Memory has been a major bottleneck in the artificial intelligence trade, so a company like Micron is not just riding optimism — it is being used as a check on whether supply constraints and AI demand can stay in the same direction. Sandisk and Western Digital also hit all-time highs on Thursday, and SK Hynix surpassed Samsung Electronics as South Korea's largest company on Monday after raising unit prices as supply tightened.
The hard part is that the stock is already priced for a lot of good news. Micron, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix all reached $1 trillion valuations last month, and MU's six-month gain shows how much of the earnings story may already be in the share price. Wednesday's results will show whether the demand and pricing strength behind the rally are still accelerating, or whether the market has run ahead of the numbers.
