Guillermo Almada has already handed Club América a first list of reinforcements, and Federico Viñas is not on it. The new coach wants Fernando Gorriarán, Elías Montiel and Luis Chávez as he starts to shape the squad after André Jardine’s departure and Jonathan Dos Santos’ exit.
The timing matters because the Liga MX transfer market has opened during the Mundial 2026, giving América a live window to move quickly while its rebuild is still at the planning stage. Jonathan Dos Santos was the first official departure after he did not renew his contract, making the next additions the club’s first real test under Almada.
David Medrano reported that Almada has already put names on the table, and the list tells its own story. Gorriarán, from Tigres, is one option. Luis Chávez, who is at Dinamo Moscú in Rusia, is another. Montiel of Pachuca completes the group, and he is the one who immediately exposes the limits of the market for América.
Edgar Morales reported that Montiel’s price would make him impossible for América to pay, which turns a desired reinforcement into a practical dead end unless the terms change. In simple terms, if a club cannot reach the asking figure, the player is not really available, no matter how much the coach likes him. That is why the name can appear on a wish list without becoming a real negotiation.
The same pressure shows up in the separate search for a Colombian player who had been placed on Real Betis’s transfer list. Diego Sandoval said América asked about him, while River Plate had already held talks. Real Betis did not want to loan him out because it wanted to recover part of its investment, and it would seek at least ten million dollars. Almada’s staff liked him, but the price was described as impossible for América.
That leaves América with a coach who has identified specific midfield targets, but with at least one of them already priced beyond reach and another tied up in a separate bidding picture. The next move will show whether the club is building a real transfer plan or simply testing names against a budget that may decide the market before the squad does.
