The 49ers are one of several teams still interested in trading for Maxx Crosby, and the Las Vegas Raiders are not ready to move him yet. A source said the failed physical that killed a possible offseason deal with the Ravens knocked down Crosby’s value, which is why any move now could take time.
That is the reason Crosby is back in the market. The Raiders tried to trade him to the Ravens this offseason, then cancelled the deal after he failed his physical. Since then, interest has not gone away, and the current read is that the team would rather wait a few months so other clubs can see he has fully recovered before asking for a premium return.
That matters because Crosby is not a speculative piece. He had 10 sacks in 15 games with the Raiders last season and has 69.5 sacks in a seven-year career. He also plays almost every snap, usually taking 95 percent of the defense’s work, which is a big part of why interested teams view him as more than a rental and why the Raiders can still talk themselves into a stronger price later.
The possible return is already part of the conversation. The Raiders probably would ask for a first-round pick and a second-round pick, or a first-round pick and a player. For the 49ers, that could mean a first-rounder and Mykel Williams, who was the 11th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and is coming off a torn ACL at 21 years old. If the Raiders wanted a second-round pick instead, the 49ers could still match that structure.
That creates the split the Raiders have to live with: a market that is open now, and a price that could improve later if Crosby’s recovery keeps trending the right way. If he plays well this season and the Raiders are still stuck, they could deal him before the deadline. If not, another NFC contender such as the Eagles or the Seahawks could step in first.
