Netflix on Thursday morning released the first teaser and first-look images for the fifth and final season of Outer Banks, setting the show’s last chapter to arrive on Aug. 20. The new footage puts Chase Stokes front and center as John B, driving home that the series is heading into a finish line fans have been waiting on since the final season was confirmed.
That date matters because the teaser does more than mark a return: it shows how much damage the Pogues are carrying into the endgame. Stokes’s John B, along with Sarah Cameron, Kiara, Pope and Cleo, are shown trying to move forward after the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco, even as they remain stranded far from home and have lost the Blue Crown. In the new setup, the group is still facing familiar threats, with Chandler Groff at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks making sure they have no home to go back to.
The cast list also makes clear how much of the series’ core is intact for the finish. Madelyn Cline returns as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kiara, Jonathan Daviss as Pope, Carlacia Grant as Cleo and Drew Starkey as Rafe, with Austin North as Topper, Fiona Palomo as Sofia, J. Anthony Crane as Chandler Groff and Cullen Moss as Shoupe also in the mix. Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke remain the creators and executive producers, keeping the final run in the hands of the people who built it.
The hard part of the season is built into the premise itself. The Pogues are trying to avenge JJ while also relying on an uneasy alliance with Rafe, a pairing that does not sound built to last and likely will not be. The teaser’s brief burst of momentum, capped by Stokes saying, “Let’s go get this son of a bitch,” makes the ending feel less like a tidy farewell than a last scramble for control.
What comes next is simple and final: Outer Banks returns to Netflix on Aug. 20, and the next chapter has already been framed as the last one. The only question left is whether the Pogues can bring it on home one final time without losing more of themselves along the way.
