NBC has canceled eight shows as it redraws its 2026-2027 TV lineup, cutting The Kelly Clarkson Show along with Law & Order: Organized Crime, Access Hollywood, Karamo, The Steve Wilkos Show, Brilliant Minds, Stumble and The Hunting Party. The network is also adding four new shows as it clears space for a schedule built around an expanded NBA commitment.
For Kelly Clarkson, the move ends one of NBC’s most visible daytime titles. For NBC, it is a blunt reset: fewer old slots to protect, more room to fill, and a fall schedule that now has to absorb up to 100 regular-season NBA games under an 11-year deal the network signed with the league.
The cancellations were not a single trim but a sweep across daytime and scripted TV. NBC removed three daytime talk shows from the board, then pulled several scripted and unscripted series at once, even as it introduced four new scripted originals meant to carry the next phase of the lineup.
That is where the friction sits. NBC is replacing established brands while asking viewers to make room for shows that have not yet proven they can hold the space. Line of Duty, a six-season detective drama starring Peter Krause and Hope Davis, will air Monday nights this fall. Newlyweds, with Téa Leoni, Tim Daly and Jamie Lee Curtis, is set for Friday nights. The Rockford Files will premiere in January, and Sunset P.I. with Jake Johnson and Jane Levy is due in February with the 2027 spring lineup.
The schedule math is the point. NBC cannot keep every familiar title, add four new ones and still preserve enough prime-time space for the NBA package it has promised to carry. The result is a narrower lineup and a clear sign that sports now drives more of the network’s calendar than some long-running entertainment series do.
What happens next is already partly set: the new shows will roll out across the fall, January and February, while the canceled programs leave gaps that NBC has not yet fully explained. The unanswered question is not whether the network is changing course; it is which time slots will be surrendered next as the NBA schedule settles in.
