has turned a long-running question about into a fresh one. The remake is set for 2027, and its release date trailer showed inside the Velvet Room, a reveal that immediately changed the conversation around how much of Persona 4 Golden will make it back into the game.

That matters because fans have spent months wondering whether Persona 4 Revival would arrive as a straight remake or as something closer to Persona 4 Golden. The new trailer gave them at least one clear answer: Marie is in it. For many players, that was enough to calm the worry that the remake would strip out the expanded material that made Golden feel like a fuller version of the story.

Marie was never part of the original Persona 4. She became a key character in Persona 4 Golden, where she has her own social link and can be part of a friendship or romantic relationship. In that version, maxing out her social link is also required to unlock the true ending, which makes her appearance in Persona 4 Revival more than a cameo. It is a signal, at minimum, that Atlus is not treating her as optional background.

That does not settle the larger question fans keep asking. Persona 4 Golden added an extended calendar, a new character to deepen the story behind the true ending, and a special epilogue. Yet Atlus has not confirmed whether all of that will return in Persona 4 Revival, and the rating split between B in Japan and Mature 17+ in the US has only fueled more reading between the lines. Some players see the ratings as a clue that content could be adjusted for different markets. Others see no such guarantee at all.

The franchise history is why the debate keeps resurfacing. Persona 3 led to Persona 3 FES, Persona 4 became Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 later became Persona 5 Royal. In each case, the final version added material that expanded the story rather than replacing it. Fans know that pattern, which is why they are watching Persona 4 Revival so closely now: the remake has already shown Marie, but it still has not said whether it will carry over all of Golden or only part of it. For the moment, Marie’s return is the strongest hint yet that Atlus understands exactly what players do not want to lose.
