Bradley Barcola has told Paris Saint-Germain he wants to leave this summer, turning a long-running question about his future into a live transfer fight. His representatives are now speaking with a host of Europe’s biggest clubs, while PSG are still pushing for him to stay and sign a new contract.
The move matters now because Barcola, 23, is not a fringe name. He is one of the most exciting wide forwards in Europe, and the interest has already reached Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea. That is the kind of attention PSG did not want to be managing in the middle of a summer rebuild.
Barcola has two years remaining on his current deal, which gives PSG leverage on paper but also puts a clock on the situation. At the start of May, his camp had already begun assessing options, and by now the player has made his position clear after growing increasingly frustrated with his role under Luis Enrique. PSG still want him to stay, and they understand why he is considering a new challenge, but that is not the same as saying they can reset the relationship.
