Bob Odenkirk is back in Saul Goodman’s colorful suits, and the comeback landed on Sunday in a short YouTube video tied to America’s 250th birthday. Near the end, Jonathan Banks stepped in again as Mike Ehrmantraut, turning the clip into a brief reunion for fans of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
The timing matters because Better Call Saul ended nearly four years ago after a six-season run, and Odenkirk’s face, the earpiece, and the old Saul swagger were enough to set off a fresh round of questions about whether the video was a new performance or something generated by AI. Peter Gould answered that directly after sharing the clip on Bluesky: “This is not AI!”
Odenkirk uses the video to play Saul at full tilt. “Hi! I’m Saul Goodman. Did you know you have rights?” he says, before rattling through a mock civics lesson about speech, assembly, the press, and protection from unreasonable searches and seizures. He ends with the line, “Know your rights. And for the love of Mike, don’t ever give them up,” while Banks closes with, “I’m Mike, and I approve this message.”
The message is straightforward, even if the packaging is not. The clip borrows Saul’s sales pitch to talk about rights, but it also works as a reminder of how durable the character remains, with Odenkirk having earned six Emmy nominations for the role. The fact that Peter Gould, one of the creators of Better Call Saul with Vince Gilligan, felt the need to clarify the video’s authenticity only added to the buzz around it.
What still is not explained is who made the video and why it arrived now, beyond the obvious fit with the 250th birthday theme. For the moment, the answer is the return itself: Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks were back in character, and that was enough to pull Saul Goodman back into the conversation.
