Disney is preparing to bring back reservation checks for guests boarding Walt Disney World resort hotel buses at Disney Springs, and the process is expected to become a permanent part of operations. The change is expected to return before the July 4 holiday week, giving Cast Members at the Disney Springs bus loop a way to verify that riders have a valid resort stay, dining reservation or recreation activity before they board.
The renewed checks matter because Disney Springs has long offered a workaround for some visitors who parked there and then used Disney bus transportation to reach the theme parks. By tying boarding to eligibility, Disney is trying to protect capacity on the transportation system and keep the buses for guests who are actually using the resort area. During the Easter trial, Cast Members scanned MagicBands to confirm eligibility, and WDWMAGIC sources said the test was considered a success.
That trial was not the first time Disney used the approach. Around New Year's, the company ran a similar verification process, then brought it back during the Easter period as the issue persisted. The plan now is different because it is expected to stick. Current plans call for the checks to remain in effect at Disney Springs only, at least for now, even as Disney is looking into whether the process could later expand to other areas of the property and other forms of transportation.
There is still one practical gap in the system. Cast Members used MagicBands during the Easter trial, but Disney has not confirmed exactly what proof will count for guests who do not have one. Nor has Disney announced the change or offered any specific details, leaving the exact start date and the acceptable alternatives unresolved even as the return before July 4 appears to be the working plan.
For now, the picture is clear enough for travelers making holiday plans: boarding checks at Disney Springs are expected to come back, they are expected to stay, and the only certainty left is how Disney will handle guests whose proof of eligibility is not on a MagicBand.
