Dead by Daylight used its 10th Anniversary Broadcast to add a director to its movie project, bringing in Thordur Palsson as the adaptation moves deeper into development. Behaviour Interactive also said the screenplay is complete and that the film is expected to begin shooting in 2027.
The announcement landed during a broadcast built around the game's 10th anniversary, giving fans a fresh look at what is coming next for the horror title first released on June 14, 2016. Blumhouse's Jason Blum and Stephen Mulrooney discussed the film during the event, and Palsson said he wants to capture the feeling of looking over a shoulder, the dread and fear of what is waiting in The Fog, and the kind of horror that stays with viewers after the credits roll.
That movie news mattered because it pushed past the kind of update players had been expecting. Some were hoping for a previously teased visual overhaul, but the broadcast instead centered on a film announcement, a new Chapter and other content coming to the game. The studio said The Life Road will arrive on June 25 and add Shane Wiigwaas, played by Dallas Goldtooth, as the first Indigenous Survivor in the game. Behaviour also said Dead by Daylight will get a Chapter based on The Casting of Frank Stone in 2027, while a new mall map is due in December.
The movie now has the two things every adaptation needs before cameras roll: a finished screenplay and a director with a clear creative brief. Palsson said the goal is not just to reproduce the game, but to capture the feeling of playing Dead by Daylight and the unease of The Fog, which suggests the film is being shaped around the same dread that made the game last this long. The remaining question is how fast the project moves from announcement to production details, because the 2027 shoot date leaves plenty of room for casting and scheduling decisions that have not yet been shared.
