The 41-year-old watched the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs game in a navy polo shirt, navy slacks and a baseball cap, with JP Lane beside him. Lane, a US Army veteran and Purple Heart Warrior Games athlete, is set to compete in his first Invictus Games next summer.
The outing matters because it was a surprise public appearance at a major game, and because the seating chart told its own story. Harry was in the arena with celebrity company around him, but not in the celebrity row, and no explanation was given for why he was placed several rows back while others sat courtside. Sydney Sweeney, Scooter Braun and Billy Baldwin were also not in that row.
That separation is the detail people will remember. Harry did not attend with Meghan Markle, and it remains unclear which team he was rooting for, leaving the evening as much about where he sat as about the game itself.
It also fits a pattern. Harry and Meghan Markle relocated from the United Kingdom to the United States in 2020, have not attended Trooping the Colour since 2022, and have made a small number of public sports appearances together, including a February All-Star Game and a Los Angeles Lakers playoff game against the Memphis Grizzlies in April 2023. This time, he showed up alone, sat back from the action, and left the biggest question hanging in plain view: what, exactly, was he there to cheer for?
