Inverness Airport shut on June 14 after an ongoing incident and told passengers it would remain closed until approximately 4pm. The airport also advised travellers to contact their airline for the latest flight updates before heading out.

The closure landed in the middle of the day and immediately hit both arrivals and departures. On the airport website, arrival flights were shown as delayed from 2pm to 5:15pm, while departures were delayed from the time of the report until 5:55pm. One arrival, the 5:30pm flight from Luton to Inverness Airport, was listed as on time, and flight to Luton at 6:25pm was also marked on time.

That mixed picture is why passengers were checking the board in the first place. , which manages Inverness Airport, posted the same closure message on X at around 1:51pm, saying the airport was closed until approximately 4pm because of an ongoing incident. The message gave no detail on what had happened, only that travellers should speak to their airline before setting off.

The gap between the stated reopening time and the live flight board is the key issue for anyone trying to travel. Even with the airport due to reopen at about 4pm, the delays shown on the website stretched beyond that point, which meant disruption was still running through the evening schedule. The only clear answer for passengers was to treat each flight separately and keep checking for changes before travelling to Inverness Airport.
