Gen.G Esports moved one step from MSI after sweeping kt Rolster 3-0 in the 4th round of the 2026 LCK Road to MSI at Wonju DB Promy Arena in Gangwon-do on the 13rd. The win sends Gen.G into the 2nd seed decider against T1 on the 14th, with the winner booking a place at MSI.
Head Coach Yoo Sang-wook said the result mattered because it came with pressure attached, adding that he was relieved to see Gen.G finish the series in straight games. He said Game 1 was the hardest of the three, and the first warning sign came before the minions even settled, in a pick-ban phase that left his side uncomfortable from the start.
That draft problem showed up in the shape of the game. Yoo said Gen.G struggled with the pick-ban phase, and felt the structure became difficult to manage after giving the opponent options such as Lee Sin and Camille. Even so, Gen.G found a way through by tightening its teamfights and turning a disadvantage into a clean series finish.
Kiin gave the same read from inside the match. He said Game 1 was difficult, but said it was a positive sign that Gen.G still won by executing its teamfights well while behind. His view matters because the next match leaves less room to recover: one loss on the 14th ends the run, while a win sends Gen.G to MSI.
The matchup with T1 is different in one key way. Yoo said T1 uses the map very organically, and said Gen.G will keep an eye on those movements while building its own plan for the decider. He also said Gen.G would make adjustments for tomorrow, which makes the pick-ban phase the most important part of the next day’s prep.
That leaves Gen.G with a simple but unforgiving task. The team already proved it can recover inside a series, but the next one will not offer a second chance if the draft goes wrong. The real test now is whether Gen.G can clean up the opening phase fast enough to turn a 3-0 into a ticket to MSI.
