Kevin Stefanski says Matt Ryan is doing more than stopping by the Atlanta Falcons during OTAs. He said Monday afternoon that Ryan has become a “tremendous resource” for the franchise, helping coaches, players and the front office as the team moved into its third week of offseason work.
The comments came as Ryan was spotted throwing during drills at the Falcons’ workouts, a sight that made his presence feel less ceremonial than practical. Stefanski said Ryan’s value comes from a perspective few others in the building can match: he knows the organization as a former player, and he knows what success inside it looks like.
That is why his role has drawn attention now. Ryan is being used across the building at a point in the calendar when teams are trying to install ideas, settle communication and sort out details before the regular season begins in September. For a franchise legend and former league MVP, the shift is notable not because he is absent from football, but because he is still close enough to it to be useful in several different rooms at once.
Kyle Pitts helped explain why the scene lands the way it does. Last week, he called seeing Ryan at workouts a nostalgic moment, and on Monday he said Ryan can still spin it like he can still play. Pitts also described Ryan as a different kind of presence now, a front office guy who is still wrapping him tighter under his wing from another angle.
That is where the story gets interesting. Ryan is being praised as a resource off the field even as he is seen throwing during drills, which blurs the line between executive presence and on-field involvement. Pitts made clear that the face and the voice are still familiar. What has changed is the job around them, and the Falcons appear to be leaning into that overlap rather than trying to hide it.
What remains unanswered is how formal that role really is, and how long the arrangement will last. For now, the Falcons are getting the benefit of a player who understands the franchise from the inside, and the next step is whether that setup continues only through OTAs and into September or settles into something more permanent.
