Jesper Svensson shot 65 in the second round of the RBC Canadian Open and moved into a tie for second after 36 holes at TPC Toronto. The 65 was five under par and left him in position for a big weekend push.
The Swede was best in the field through two rounds from tee to green, posting +3.74 in SG: from tee, and he also ranked fifth in SG: Putting at +4.08. He opened with a birdie on the first hole, added three more on the front nine, then finished with birdies at 14, 16 and 18 despite a bogey at the 10th.
That puts Svensson in a direct race for a ranking jump that matters now. He began the week 136th in the FedEx Cup standings, and if his position holds through the weekend he would move to 93rd, a rise that would change the rest of his season far more than a single round ever could.
He shares second with four other players, but rookie Ben James still leads at ten under par, so Svensson is chasing both a trophy and ground on the leaderboard. The rest of the weekend will decide whether this becomes the round that moved him into contention or just the one that got him close.
The Canadian Open also sent some more familiar names home early: Pontus Nyholm missed the cut at four over par, Alex Norén missed at five over, and Charlie Lindh was out after rounds of 78 and 72. For Svensson, the job now is simpler and harder at once — keep scoring and make the number on Sunday match the one he needs.
