Mohamed Salah’s long Liverpool chapter is ending this summer, but the next one is still unwritten. His agent said this week that the 33-year-old has not made a final decision about where he will play after Anfield, even as an agreement has been reached for his time on Merseyside to come to an end.

He spent nine years at Liverpool, scored 257 goals in all competitions and signed a two-year extension last April that was meant to keep him at the club until 2027, before the exit plan was set in motion. There are already plenty of ideas about where that might be. A possible move to Turkey has been discussed, and Fenerbahce executive Ertan Torunogullari said Salah was “very keen on coming to Turkey.” He said meetings had been “extremely positive,” that common ground had been found on several issues, including salary, and that Salah could wear the Fenerbahce shirt if the club’s new leadership makes the request.
But another voice from Salah’s circle has put a brake on the noise. Ahmed El-Shenawy said the prospect of leaving Liverpool had affected Salah psychologically, but that the situation could still change and he might remain with the team. El-Shenawy also said Salah told him he does not know anything about his future yet, which keeps the door open to every destination that has been linked with him.
The uncertainty matters because Liverpool have already lost a player who delivered 12 goals last season, his lowest return since joining from Roma in 2017. It also leaves open the bigger question that now hangs over the summer: whether Salah’s next move takes him to Turkey, to the Saudi Pro League, or somewhere else entirely.
For now, the one firm detail is that a nine-year spell at Anfield is ending, while the rest is still being decided behind closed doors. The search for his next club will likely continue to follow him until Salah finally says where he is going.
