Heather Rae El Moussa said she and Tarek El Moussa felt violated after thieves broke into their Newport Beach home while the couple was away on vacation, taking jewelry and ransacking the bedroom closet before fleeing. Police said the break-in happened sometime between 7:30 a.m. on June 6 and 6 p.m. on June 8, and that the family was not at the property when it was hit.

The post from El Moussa, 38, landed as the burglary became public and gave the story its most immediate human detail: she said the pair were safe, and so were their children, while she described the couple as disgusted and sad. The message also pointed readers to the one question that still hangs over the case — which home was targeted, and what was taken from it?

Newport Beach police said unknown suspects shattered a rear sliding glass door to get inside while the couple was in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, then ransacked the primary bedroom closet before leaving through the backyard, along the side of the house and out the front yard. Several pieces of jewelry were reported stolen. The couple, who are parents to 3-year-old Tristan and Tarek El Moussa’s two older children with Christina Haack, own two Newport Beach dwellings, but police have not identified which one was hit.

That gap matters because one of the homes is on the rental market for $30,000 a month, while the other was bought for $5.2 million in June 2025 and is understood to be the family’s primary residence. The couple had only recently shown off the newer house on Instagram and said they were excited to bring fans along as they overhauled the four-bedroom, four-bathroom property, turning what they presented as a new chapter into a scene of a break-in.
