George Furbank has been named Northampton Saints’ cinch Player of the Month for May after supporters backed his work across three outings. The full-back’s month ended with recognition from the stands, even after Saints started May with a 41-17 defeat at Leicester Tigers.
The award gives Furbank a formal finish to a month built on volume and impact. He made 43 carries and covered 221 metres with the ball in hand across those three appearances, then finished the home stretch with a decisive final score in Northampton’s 36-32 win over Gloucester Rugby at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens.
Supporters had four other nominees to weigh against him: Alex Coles, Tommy Freeman, Emmanuel Iyogun and Archie McParland. Furbank came through that vote to claim the monthly honour, showing that the bruising loss on Derby Day did not define Saints’ May run. Northampton then responded with a 94-33 win over Bristol Bears in Round 16 before beating Gloucester in a game that secured a home tie in the Gallagher PREM playoffs with a week to spare.
The supporter vote itself also had a prize attached. Janet Heeler was chosen out of nearly 500 supporters who took part and won a Saints ball signed by Furbank, adding another small layer of recognition to a month that belonged to the full-back. Saints do not yet have a confirmed follow-up award date in view, but May has already set the standard for what fans rewarded most: carrying hard, gaining ground and finishing when it mattered.
