Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram were having problems for some users Friday morning, with the disruption surfacing around 9:30 a.m. EST. Many users could not sign on to Facebook at all, while others saw the message, “This page isn't available right now.”
Instagram pages would not load for many people, and Messenger was also down, making the interruption broader than a single app glitch. Downdetector was reporting user problems across the three Meta platforms, giving a live picture of how widely the issue was being felt.
That mattered because the services sit at the center of daily communication for millions of people, and the outage cut across both social posting and private messaging at the same time. For anyone trying to check a feed, send a message or open an Instagram page Friday morning, the failure was immediate and visible.
What was not clear was the cause. There was no timetable for when the issues would be resolved, leaving users with no indication of how long the disruption would last as the morning went on.
