Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan said the club has already met André Onana's financial demands as it tries to turn the goalkeeper's loan into a permanent move. The Turkish club wants the deal done quickly, but the final decision still depends on whether Manchester United and Trabzonspor can agree a transfer fee.
The timing matters because Onana spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor and helped them qualify for the Europa League, making him one of the most visible names in the club's recent success. Dogan said last week that Trabzonspor were moving fast and wanted an agreement in the coming days, a sign the club sees this as a live deal rather than a distant possibility.
Dogan also said he expects Onana to stay, saying the fans like him and describing the Cameroon international as a decent bloke. He added that he and Onana speak almost every day and said the player loves it in Trabzon, which is why the club believes it has room to keep him even as it works through the transfer details.
There is still a gap between that optimism and the reality of the market. Reports claim Onana wants to return to Old Trafford and challenge Senne Lammens for the number one spot, while Besiktas are also said to be interested in hijacking the move. Manchester United have not yet agreed a fee with Trabzonspor, and that remains the point that will decide whether the goalkeeper stays in Turkey or heads back to England.
United also need to sell Onana for around £20million to avoid a loss under the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules, which gives the negotiation extra weight. Trabzonspor won the Turkish Cup with Onana last season and now say they want him to remain part of the squad, but the next move belongs to the clubs, not the player, and the deal will only move forward if the money lines up.
