Olivia Rodrigo says her next album is done, and she is ready to let it go. Speaking from Los Angeles, the 23-year-old said she finished you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love in March and is now eager for the record to stop being hers.
That matters now because the rollout has already begun. Rodrigo released drop dead in April, then turned up days later for a surprise Coachella appearance with Addison Rae, giving fans a first glimpse of the era before the album arrives in summer 2026. She described the new single as a synthy love song about meeting someone you really like for the first time, a framing that matches the way she is presenting the record: not as a breakup document, but as a love-focused project built around her first adult relationship.
Rodrigo said she wanted to capture “that feeling of meeting someone you really like for the first time” and all the excitement, nerves and anxiety that come with it. The relationship at the center of the album is widely believed to be her romance with English actor Louis Partridge, and that is where some of the intrigue lies. Their relationship was rumoured to have ended in late 2025, yet Rodrigo is still describing the music as rooted in love rather than loss.
The contrast is familiar for a singer who has spent the last five years turning personal upheaval into huge commercial returns. Her debut single drivers license broke Spotify’s single-day streaming record for a non-Christmas song in 2021, SOUR became the most-streamed album of that year and later Spotify’s most-streamed album by a female artist ever, and GUTS was followed by a world tour that drew 1.6 million people, grossed more than $200 million across 101 shows and helped cement her as one of pop’s biggest live draws.
She is already carrying a trophy case to match that scale, with three Grammy awards, four MTV Video Music Awards and seven Billboard music awards. She also told fans she is no longer in the place she was when she used to worry about growing up, saying, “Oh my God, things have got so much better.”
The gap now is simple, and it is the one fans will keep watching: an exact release date has not been confirmed. For now, summer 2026 is the target, and Rodrigo sounds less like someone guarding a secret than someone ready to hand the next chapter over.
