is back in Summer Bay after 20 years, joining as emergency department doctor Amelia Carlisle, with her first episode set to air on Thursday. The casting gives the long-running soap a familiar face from , and Rush, and puts her straight into a hospital storyline from the start.

For da Silva, the role came with more than a career reset. She said Home and Away carries a particular pull because she grew up watching it, and because the job lets her stay close to family and community while solo-parenting her daughter. Based in Sydney, she also runs the theatre and film production company with Wentworth co-star .

Her return to the show also comes with a small echo of where she started. About 20 years ago, da Silva filmed a one-day Home and Away scene in a bikini, shared a kiss with and was watched from the sidelines by Chris Hemsworth's character at Palm Beach. This time she is arriving as a regular, not a cameo, and Amelia Carlisle is being positioned as part of the show's hospital engine rather than a brief visit to the Bay.

That was part of the appeal, but it also brought a practical adjustment. Da Silva said she did research and spoke to doctor friends to prepare for Amelia, while making clear that drama still comes first and strict medical realism has to bend to the needs of the story. “My whole focus is to do justice to the people I portray, so I’m wanting to make sure that I get things as correct and as close to the reality as possible,” she said. On Home and Away, that means a doctor character who feels believable without turning the show into a training manual.

Her first episode centres that balance immediately. Carlisle treats the gunshot wound of a beloved Summer Bay resident, giving the character an entry point that is both medical and emotional, and da Silva said there has already been some excitement online about her joining the cast. She also confirmed that the storyline is not staying strictly clinical, adding, “There’s some romance down the track. I won’t say who that’s with, but that’s been a lovely storyline to play out.”

The move gives Home and Away another cast member with soap and drama credentials and underlines why the show still draws attention as one of the industry’s steady performers. Da Silva, best known to many viewers as Franky Doyle in Wentworth, is also expected to reprise that role in a forthcoming spin-off, but for now her focus is on Amelia Carlisle and the Thursday debut. The bigger question is not whether she can fit the part; it is who the romance is with, and whether Summer Bay’s newest doctor will end up at the centre of the season’s most talked-about story.
