Arkansas landed a major backcourt target in Davion Thompson, a top 25 class of 2027 prospect who announced his commitment to John Calipari and the Razorbacks on 2026. The 6-2, 179-pound guard from Link Academy in Branson, Missouri, picked Arkansas over Michigan, Baylor and Vanderbilt.
The commitment gives Calipari and his staff another high-level recruit to build around, and it came at a moment when Arkansas was still chasing impact talent for its next class. Thompson’s decision matters now because his timeline could change the deal again: he is listed as a 2027 prospect, but he could reclassify to 2026 and arrive in Fayetteville this summer for the 2026-27 season.
That possibility is what makes this commitment more than a standard pledge. Arkansas has Thompson on board either way, but a move into the 2026 class would push him onto campus sooner and alter how quickly the program can count on him. For now, though, the biggest fact is the one Thompson just made public — he chose Arkansas, and the rest is a question of timing.
Thompson’s choice also closed the door on a list of suitors that had stayed in the mix until the end. Michigan, Baylor and Vanderbilt were all among the programs he considered, but Calipari won out for one of the most closely watched guards in the country. If the reclassification happens, Arkansas will not just have a top 25 recruit. It will have him in uniform before the 2026-27 season begins.
