César Peixoto is in advanced negotiations to leave Gil Vicente for Wolverhampton, with the two clubs and the coach’s representatives already deep into talks over a move to England. The process is moving fast enough that only a few details remain before a deal can be wrapped up.
That is why Peixoto’s name is being searched now. The change could reshape both benches: Wolverhampton, relegated to the Championship, want a coach who can help drive a return to the Premier League next season, while Gil Vicente know they may soon be looking for a replacement after formalizing his contract until 2027 on 6 November 2025.
Peixoto has already built a long coaching path in Portugal, leading Varzim, Académica, Chaves, Moreirense, Paços de Ferreira and Gil Vicente before this latest opening arrived. The project in England appeals to him, and negotiations have been taking place for several days under the handling of Gestifute, with Jorge Mendes in Madrid dealing with José Mourinho’s move to Real.
But the deal is not simply a matter of agreeing personal terms. Wolverhampton would have to compensate Gil Vicente to secure his services, and the Portuguese club already knows of the Premier League side’s interest. That requirement is the last real obstacle in a move that has advanced far enough to create expectation on both sides without yet producing white smoke.
The dossier on Peixoto’s move to England should be concluded in the next few days. If the compensation issue is settled, Wolverhampton will move quickly on a coach who has made clear appeal to their project; if not, Gil Vicente will keep the man they tied down for the long term only months ago.
