Spotify users were dealing with an outage Wednesday afternoon as reports of problems with the music streaming platform climbed past 25,000 on Downdetector. The spike hit shortly after 5 p.m. EST, leaving many listeners unable to get into the app or connect to the server.
About half of the complaints were tied to the Spotify app, while others centered on server access and connection problems. That split suggested the outage was hitting more than one part of the service at once, which helps explain why it drew so many reports so quickly.
Downdetector’s numbers pointed to a broad disruption, not an isolated glitch. More than 25,000 reports in one afternoon is enough to knock routine listening off course for a large share of users, and the timing made it especially visible as the problem surfaced in the early evening.
The issue could be fixed quickly, but many users were still dealing with it. Spotify had not confirmed what caused the outage or whether it was fully resolved, leaving users to wait while the service that had been cut off for them remained unsettled.
