Chelsea have confirmed that Richard Olise will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of June, with the academy forward among four players being released as the club reshapes its homegrown ranks.
The move is being searched now because the decisions have been made and the exits are set for the end of June. For Olise, it closes a Chelsea spell that took him through the Under-18s, Under-19s and Under-21s, and left him with 58 appearances for the club’s youth sides.
He is the brother of Bayern Munich star Michael Olise, but his own path at Chelsea never reached the first team. The club’s latest release list also includes Sam Rak-Sakyi, Jimi Tauriainen and Brodi Hughes, underlining how much turnover is coming in the academy before the summer window fully opens.
That makes Olise’s exit harder to file away as routine. Chelsea are letting him go even with 58 youth appearances behind him, a decent run by academy standards and evidence that he was part of the club’s plans for several age groups. Still, the decision leaves no ambiguity about where the club’s line is being drawn as it clears space for other homegrown prospects.
Rak-Sakyi’s case shows the same calculation in sharper relief. Under Enzo Maresca, he made four appearances for Chelsea’s first team and spent 86 minutes in the 3-1 victory over FC Astana in the Conference League in December 2024, yet he is also leaving at the end of June. Brodi Hughes, meanwhile, will depart after his only two outings during 2025-26 were for AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Trophy, despite producing four goals and eight assists in 87 outings for Chelsea’s Under-21s.
What happens next for Olise is not yet clear, and that is the part left hanging by Chelsea’s announcement. The club has made its release decisions; the only unanswered question is where a player with years in its academy system goes after the final whistle at Stamford Bridge.
