NetEase has outlined what is coming to Marvel Rivals season 8.5, and Cyclops is front and center. The midseason update adds the new Duelist, the K'un-Lun: Shenloong Arena map, the 18v18 Bounty Annihilation mode and a seasonal event.
That is the reason players are searching the Marvel Rivals patch notes now: season 8.5 is shaping up as a meaningful content drop, and the first confirmed date attached to it is June 12-26, when NetEase opens the 616 vault and brings back costumes that ran in events from July through September 2025, including the last round of swimsuits.
Cyclops is built around visor beams and precision shots, but one of the standout abilities is a scattershot beam that bounces between nearby characters and can take a big chunk out of their health bars. It comes with two charges, which makes it especially punishing when he has room to set up pressure. He also has a mobility skill that fires a laser blast and sends him flying backward quickly, though that move has a long cooldown and he gets no overhealth, so there is still plenty of room to punish him if he is caught out.
His ultimate is where the character starts to look brutal for opponents. Cyclops charges a beam of light, fires it in a straight line in front of him and up into the air, and then the blast explodes after a second to deal hefty damage to any character or object it catches. That matters in a game where most ultimates are localized and flying characters can escape many of them pretty easily, including Iron Man’s powerful pulse burst, which is why his beam can feel less predictable than the average screen-clearing attack.
The seasonal event also adds swimsuit costumes for a select lineup of characters and a Hellfire Bay Beach social spot with a summer theme, giving the update a lighter side alongside the combat changes. What NetEase has not pinned down yet is the exact launch date for season 8.5, so the next concrete marker for players is the 616 vault opening on June 12-26 and whatever follows when the midseason update actually arrives.
