Video from the crematorium showed him in grief, with tears in his eyes as he struggled to hold back his emotions.
Multiple photos and clips circulating on paparazzi pages showed Salman leaving the crematorium along with other attendees after the service for Kumud Rane, who was described as a close friend and family friend. The images quickly drew attention because they showed one of Hindi cinema's biggest names openly mourning in public, not long after another loss in May, when he remembered Sushil Kumar on Instagram as someone who had stood by him for more than four decades.
Among those present on Tuesday were Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Helen, Salma Khan and Amrita Arora, along with Maheep Kapoor, Chunky Panday and Sanjay Kapoor. Nirvaan Khan was also seen teary-eyed, while Arhaan Khan was spotted consoling him. Sohail later took care of Salma Khan and Helen and escorted them to the car carefully, as the group slowly left the crematorium.
One detail in the footage stood out from the rest: Arbaaz Khan exited the crematorium without greeting Amrita Arora and her mother, even though both were there. The moment added a quiet edge to a day otherwise marked by grief, and it came as Salman appeared overwhelmed while paying tribute to Rane.
Rane's death cause has not been made public, and no next event around the funeral has been confirmed. For now, the public images leave the strongest impression: Salman, visibly shaken, at the side of a friend he had known for years, while the people around him tried to steady one another.
