Kelli Giddish thinks Law & Order: SVU will not just keep going — she believes it will absolutely make it to Season 30. The actor, who first stepped in as Amanda Rollins 15 years ago, said the long-running NBC drama is headed for another milestone even though its next return is already the one scheduled for fall 2026.
The reason she sounds so certain starts with the people still steering the show. Giddish said, “It’s a huge milestone, and Dick Wolf wants it and I think Mariska [Hargitay] wants it, and when those two people want something, it gets done,” a comment that neatly captures how much of the series’ future still runs through the creator and its longtime star.
That is why the question around law and order svu is landing now. The series is closing in on a 30th-season mark that once sounded almost unthinkable, and the 28th season is already set to premiere on NBC in fall 2026. For viewers who have followed the show through cast changes, that next step is no small thing.
Hargitay is still the sole original cast member on the series, having first played Olivia Benson in 1999 before Benson rose to captain and Hargitay took on executive producer duties as well. Ice-T joined in Season 2, and Giddish has had a long and uneven path through the ensemble herself, joining the current cast in Season 13, exiting as a series regular in Season 24, guest starring in Season 25, recurring in Season 26 and then returning full-time in Season 27.
That history is part of why her confidence lands with weight. Giddish said she hears from viewers across generations, including an assistant coach of the Knicks who told her, “I love your show. I’ve been watching it since the very start.” She said the reaction still amazes her because so many people describe the show as something they watched with a parent or grandparent, or something their own children now know by heart.
The catch is that Season 30 is still only a prediction. NBC has already locked in the show’s return for Season 28, but anything beyond that remains ahead of the line, not past it. For now, Giddish is betting on the machinery, the loyalty and the audience to carry Law & Order: SVU to a number that would once have sounded like fiction — and she is not shy about saying she expects it to happen.
