Wyatt Russell said most of Avengers: Doomsday is already in the can and called Sebastian Stan “amazing” in the Marvel film, offering a fresh on-set update from one of the studio’s biggest upcoming releases. Speaking at the London Disclosure Day premiere, Russell said the project is “looking awesome” based on what he has seen so far.
Those comments matter because Avengers: Doomsday is still months away from theaters, yet Russell’s remarks suggest the production has moved deep into post-filming work. He said he has not seen much of the movie, even though “most of the filming” is finished, but added that he has caught some trailers and that “just doing it was a blast.”
Russell’s praise was not limited to Stan. He said David Harbour will be great in the film and noted that he and his castmates worked a lot together on set, with Florence Pugh among those present. All of the Thunderbolts are returning in Avengers: Doomsday, putting the group at the center of a larger Marvel ensemble that also includes Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, the Fantastic Four and the Fox-era X-Men.
That larger scope is part of what makes the update notable: the film is being positioned as a reset of sorts by director Joe Russo, who has described it as a return to phase zero and said it is starting over from scratch. For now, Russell’s comments are the clearest sign that the Thunderbolts have already done substantial work inside that bigger story, even if the full shape of their roles remains offscreen.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, and Russell’s remarks point to a production that is far enough along for its stars to start talking about performances, trailers and the scale of what they have just made.
