Ashlyn Harris is speaking publicly about the divorce from Ali Krieger at the same time she is promoting a new documentary built around her life. In an exclusive interview, Harris said she does not resent the life she built with Krieger, but added that it was not the life she wanted for herself.
That candor is landing now because Gamechangers: The Ashlyn Harris Story premieres June 8 on The Roku Channel, giving her a fresh platform to talk about one of the most personal chapters in her life. Harris filed for divorce from Krieger in September 2023 after nearly four years of marriage, and the breakup drew attention beyond soccer because the two shared a public life and two children, daughter Sloane, 5, and son Ocean, 3.
Harris said the documentary will cover family struggles, her rebellious teen years, her path on Team USA and her relationship with actress Sophia Bush. She said she started dating Bush in October 2023, and described herself as the happiest she has ever been. She also said, “I had to make a really hard decision. I know I hurt her in that process,” a line that puts the cost of the split beside her own sense that she could not keep trying to make the marriage work.
The former U.S. women’s national team teammates are now tied together less by the career they built than by the work of raising two children after a divorce that became public last year. Harris said she wants to be authentic and believes sharing scars can be one of the most beautiful things a person can do, which makes the documentary more than a victory lap: it is her version of the story, told before the premiere and before viewers can judge how much of the private fallout makes it onto the screen.
