Patrick Wilson has come full circle in Cape Fear, where he plays Tom Bowden opposite Joe Anders, who plays Zack Bowden in the Apple TV+ miniseries that premiered June 5, 2026. The connection runs through Kate Winslet, because Wilson once worked with her in Todd Field’s Little Children in 2006, and now he is sharing the screen with her son.
That is why Wilson’s comments about Anders are drawing attention now: the first two episodes are already streaming, and the remaining eight will arrive weekly. Wilson said he asked Anders whether he had seen Little Children, then laughed that it was an interesting reference because Anders may not have seen the film. He said they had a great time together and called Anders the kind of actor whose family background makes sense once you hear it.
Wilson did not hold back in praising Winslet, calling her one of the greatest and “such a pro.” He also pointed to Anders’ father, Sam Mendes, as one of two “powerhouse artistic folks” in the family, a remark that turned a simple casting note into something more personal. The line that landed hardest was Wilson’s own: “The apple doesn’t fall far…with him.”
That family thread matters because Cape Fear is not a small reunion project. The series is adapted from John D. MacDonald’s The Executioners and follows in the wake of the 1962 and 1991 film versions, with Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, Lily Collias, CCH Pounder, Jamie Hector, Anna Baryshnikov and Margarita Levieva also in the cast. In that context, the Bowdens are not just characters in a thriller; they are the point where an older screen partnership and a new generation meet.
What Wilson did not answer is how Anders took the comparison to Winslet himself. He said enough to make the connection feel natural, but not enough to settle whether the younger actor had even seen the film that made the reference matter. For now, the casting works as a neat bit of Hollywood symmetry, and the rest of Cape Fear will spend the next eight weeks deciding whether the series has anything bigger to say than that.
