Real Madrid are preparing to accelerate their push for Michael Olise after Florentino Pérez was re-elected as club president, turning a familiar transfer rumour into an immediate question of timing. The renewed drive comes after exit polls reported by COPE, Marca and Diario AS showed Pérez comfortably defeating Enrique Riquelme in this year’s election.
Pérez has run Real Madrid since 2009, and his campaign promise to bring another Galactico back to the club has already sharpened attention around the next move. Reports in the Telegraph have identified Olise as his secret target, and the interest is no longer being discussed in the abstract. Real Madrid are now being linked with a bid that could test Bayern Munich’s resolve before the market settles.
The reason Olise is suddenly at the centre of the conversation is simple: he has just joined up with the French national team and is preparing for the World Cup, which puts him in the middle of a high-profile summer before a ball has been kicked. For Real Madrid, the appeal is obvious. The former Crystal Palace winger delivered 53 goal contributions in 52 appearances this season, a return that explains why a club of Madrid’s size would look at him as more than another name on a list.
Bayern, though, are trying to close the door before it opens. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said there is no price tag for a player like Olise that would make the club flinch, while Herbert Hainer insisted that the winger is under a long-term contract and that Bayern are not a selling club. He added that if Florentino Pérez wants to send a bid, which has not happened so far, he can save himself the trouble.
That is the point at which the story stops being a routine transfer link and becomes a real test of will. Real Madrid may believe Pérez’s return gives them the momentum to make a statement signing, but Bayern are publicly saying the player is staying put and that no offer has reached them. Didier Deschamps added another layer by saying Olise will know very well whether he wants to stay at FC Bayern Munich or needs a change of scenery, while also making clear he can imagine other clubs will come forward.
So the next move matters. Real Madrid now have to decide whether to turn their renewed interest into a formal offer, and if they do, Bayern will be forced to answer more than a hypothetical question. For Olise, the summer has already become a live transfer story before the World Cup even begins.
