David Morrissey’s comedy-drama Daddy Issues is back in view because both of its six-episode seasons are now available to stream on iPlayer, and the series is sitting on a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The show first premiered in 2024 and returned for a second season in 2025, giving viewers a rare chance to binge the whole run at once.
That helps explain why Morrissey keeps coming up in searches now, especially with the actor also appearing in Channel 4’s Tip Toe. Daddy Issues is the highest-rated TV show of his career by critics, a striking marker for a series that has built its following quietly rather than through a big launch.
The drama centers on Gemma, a pregnant girl played by Aimee Lou Wood, who is living in a flat share with her recently divorced dad, Malcolm, played by Morrissey. The setup is simple enough to pitch in a line, but the response from critics has been unusually warm. The Age called it “a comedy that’s both hilarious and heartfelt,” while The Times branded it “delightful.”
Others were just as taken with the mix. described Daddy Issues as “daft, honest, funny and tinged with bleakness,” and said it “gives stereotypes a twist,” adding that “everything feels that bit more resonant as a result.” The Independent went further, calling it “a warm hug of a show, but with just enough edge to keep you on your toes.”
That praise has not come without a caveat. Digital Spy said the show could be funnier and a bit less clichéd, even while arguing it was a strong sign for British comedy and noting that the series gets off to a quirky start without overstaying its welcome. That kind of comment matters because it suggests the show’s appeal is less about polish than confidence: a comedy-drama with room to breathe, and room to improve.
For now, the answer to the biggest open question is simple: no third season has been confirmed. But with two seasons already online, a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and a cast that also includes David Fynn, Sharon Rooney, Arian Nik, Susan Lynch, Taj Atwal, Damien Molony and Jill Halfpenny, Daddy Issues has already done enough to turn into one of Morrissey’s most talked-about TV credits.
