State of Decay 3 is now being talked about as a possible part of the June 7 Xbox Showcase, a sign the long-delayed game may finally be close enough to show in public. The same reporting says Undead Labs has already taken it into private alpha testing with a small group that includes community members and YouTubers.
That matters because the game was first announced in 2020 and has spent years with very little new information attached to it. Jez Corden said it is almost certain the game will appear at the showcase, and added that Undead Labs has apparently nailed the AAA feel that was missing from State of Decay 2.
The timing is what has turned the speculation into a real moment. June 7 is the next obvious date on the calendar for fans who have waited since the original reveal, and private alpha testing suggests there is more than a teaser-sized idea behind the project now. It is a different place from where the game stood when the announcement trailer first dropped.
That early trailer, Philip Holt said in April, was barely backed by an actual game at all. He said there was not really a game or even a game team when the trailer was being made, that it was so early, and that the project was essentially sitting in a Word document. Holt also said the pre-rendered trailer was created entirely by Blur and was meant to show Undead Labs’ vision for what it wanted State of Decay 3 to be.
That gap between the polished trailer and the reality behind it explains why every new update has carried so much weight. The franchise has not lacked interest; it has lacked evidence, and now the evidence points to a game that has moved past concept work and into testing, even if only with a small slice of players.
The unanswered question is no longer whether State of Decay 3 exists in more than name. It is whether the June 7 Xbox Showcase is the moment Xbox finally lets people see how far along it really is.
