Two people were hospitalized after an early morning house fire in Fern Rock on Saturday, and investigators later ruled the blaze arson. Crews were called to the 5700 block of North Camac Street at about 3:55 a.m., where firefighters found flames coming from the rear of a two-story rowhome.
The fire is drawing attention now because it left two people from the home with smoke inhalation and put Philadelphia investigators on the scene before dawn. Both were taken to Jefferson Einstein Hospital after firefighters worked for more than an hour to get the blaze under control.
Fern Rock is a neighborhood in Philadelphia, and the timing of the fire matters because the cause has already been classified as arson. That ruling gives the case a sharper edge than a routine house fire, even though officials have not released any information about who may be responsible.
The Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, but the gap at the center of the case remains unchanged: investigators have labeled the fire deliberate without saying how it was set or who started it. For the people who were inside the home, the most important fact is already settled. The question left for investigators is whether the person behind it can be identified.
