Arsenal have made an approach for Paris St-Germain defender Emmanuel Mbemba, opening the door to a summer move on a free transfer when the 18-year-old's contract expires at the end of June.
The early contact is understood to have included an outline of what Arsenal could offer, with the club making clear that Mbemba would not be arriving as a short-term project. The teenager is a France youth international and recently captained PSG's under-19 side to French Youth Cup success at the Stade de France, a run that has pushed his name further into view as the summer window nears.
Mbemba's case has become one of the more delicate youth-contract situations around PSG. He has been offered a new deal in Paris, but he is open to a move to a leading Premier League club and is said to favour Arsenal. Training compensation is expected to be just over £150,000 once his contract expires, a modest sum for a player Arsenal believe could develop into a long-term option.
That interest also reflects a specific role Arsenal have in mind. Mbemba has mainly played as a centre-back in PSG's youth system, but the Gunners view him as a future option at left-back. The club have also pointed to William Saliba's path, noting how a loan spell in Marseille helped shape his progress before he became established in north London.
Mbemba was told he would go out on a European loan until January 2027, a step designed to give him time to secure a work permit for England.
