Celebrity Gogglebox is back on 5 June for its eighth season and its 50th episode, and four new pairs of famous faces are joining the sofa for the milestone return. Among the first-time pairings is Olivia Attwood, who will appear alongside her mother as the show expands its rolling cast again.
The new episode lands tonight, which is why the cast reveal matters now: viewers are not being told just that the programme is returning, but that it is doing so with fresh combinations built for one of British television’s most familiar formats. The series has made a habit of turning at-home reactions into a prime-time draw, and this instalment pushes that formula into a bigger landmark outing.
Attwood said filming with her mother was “chaotic but in the best possible way” and admitted they do not often agree on things, a detail that should give the pair the sort of easy friction the show thrives on. She added that her family are huge fans of the programme and that it felt like “a real honour” to be part of such an iconic British series. That mix of fondness and disagreement is likely to be the point.
The other newcomers include Nitro and Legend, known as Harry and Matt, along with George and Max, who are content creators and social media personalities. George and Max recently said their podcast, The Useless Hotline, would end so they could focus on other projects, while George has also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing. Julian Clary, 67, and Nigel Havers also join the line-up, bringing together a performer who won Celebrity Big Brother 10 in 2012 and an actor known for roles in British sitcoms and Coronation Street.
Clary called the filming “an absolute treat” and said he liked to think his commentary added “a certain level of refinement” while Havers stayed awake, though there was “an unsightly stain” on his sofa. For a show built on watching television and talking over it, that is the right sort of chaos: the new names may change the chemistry, but the draw remains the same, and the real test on 5 June will be which pair viewers want back for the next episode.
