Channel 4 has confirmed that Olivia Attwood and her mum Jennifer will join Celebrity Gogglebox when the show returns on Friday 5 June, with the pair taking to the sofa to react to the great and the good of the small screen. The new run marks the programme’s 50th episode and the start of its eighth season.
The return gives Attwood another prime-time outing at a moment when the series is back in search mode, with a fresh batch of famous faces announced for later this week. Julian Clary and Nigel Havers are among the newcomers, while George Clarke will appear with his Useless Hotline podcast co-host Max Balegde, and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, known as Nitro from Gladiators, is set to sit alongside Matt Morsia, or Legend from Gladiators.
The timing matters because Celebrity Gogglebox is one of Channel 4’s most familiar rolling formats: famous names come and go, reacting from the sofa to whatever is making noise on television that week. That is why the mix of names this time stands out. The broadcaster has called them a new cast of famous faces, but the list also includes returning regulars, among them Vernon Kay and Paddy McGuinness, Bez and Shaun Ryder, Roman and Martin Kemp, Ashley Banjo and Perri Kiely, Nick Grimshaw and his niece Liv, the Mangans, Rylan and his mum Linda, Mo Gilligan and Babatunde Aléshé, Denise Van Outen and Johnny Vaughan, and Vicky Pattison and Pete Wicks.
Clary, in a typical aside, said his stint was a “perfectly civilised” way to spend an evening, while Havers joked that working with him was a dream come true, adding that the line was clearly written by Clary. Clarke said the appeal was simple: sit down, say what you think and watch the conversation veer off track, while Aikines-Aryeetey described filming as a night of laughs, unexpected moments and easy fun. The new episodes begin on Channel 4 at 9pm, and the only unanswered question is which shows Attwood and Jennifer will be watching first.
