The has recalled Thermos 770ml Stainless King Food Jars and 710ml Stainless King Food Jars after warning that the stopper can eject forcefully when opened and cause serious injury. The recall was issued on Thursday, and owners are being told to stop using the products immediately.

The notice matters because these jars were sold in Australia from July 2009 to December 2022, making this a long-running that reached customers through major retailers including , , , Amazon, Bunnings, Mitre 10, Australia Post, BCF, David Jones, The Good Guys and Harris Scarfe. The ACCC says the defect can lead to impact injuries and lacerations, and in the United States there have been three reports of permanent vision loss after people were struck in the eye.

Owners are being asked to check the underside of the stopper for a pressure relief feature. If the base does not have one, the stopper is affected. The stopper sits beneath the stainless-steel lid, which means the flaw is not obvious at first glance and could remain hidden in kitchens and cupboards long after the sale.

That is what makes this recall more than a routine warning. The products were widely distributed over 13 years, yet the hazard involves a part that can fire out with enough force to injure someone badly. The ACCC says the risk is real enough to justify immediate action, even though it has not said how many affected jars are still in homes.

Thermos says replacement stoppers should be available by July 2026. When they are ready, the company will ask consumers to safely dispose of the affected stopper and send a replacement at no cost, along with installation instructions. Until then, can be contacted on 1800 683 363 from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm AEST, or by email at info@.
