Greater Anglia services between Cambridge and Newmarket were blocked on the day of the incident after a person was hit by a train. The disruption also delayed trains between Ipswich and Cambridge, leaving passengers facing an unplanned stop to their journeys.
The company said routes through the area were shut because of an incident between the stations, and a spokesman said response teams were dealing with it. Services from Ipswich were affected, and disruption was expected to continue until further notice, with no time given for when normal running would resume.
The person hit by the train was not identified, and no date, time or cause for the incident was given. That left the immediate focus on clearing the line and restoring traffic on a route that links Cambridge with Newmarket and connects through to Ipswich.
