Gillian Taylforth’s sister Kim Taylforth also carved out a TV acting career, and the link between them runs straight through Hollyoaks. Kim played Christine Roscoe, the on-screen sibling of Gillian’s Sandy Roscoe, in April 2017, three years after Sandy left the soap.
That detail has drawn fresh attention to Gillian, 70, because she is already one of British television’s most recognisable soap names, having first appeared as Kathy Beale in EastEnders in February 1985. The family connection is the sort of casting twist viewers remember: one sister made famous by Albert Square, the other stepping into the Roscoe story years later.
Kim’s role was brief but memorable. Christine Roscoe visited Freddie Roscoe in April 2017, bringing her into the same Hollyoaks world that Gillian had left in August 2014 after playing Sandy Roscoe from May 2013. It is a small overlap on paper, but it joins two careers that have long moved in parallel.
There is a neat friction in the story, too. Gillian is best known for EastEnders, yet her sister has also worked steadily across soaps, including Brookside in 1998 as Pauline Robson and ITV’s Bad Girls as Marilyn Fenner. Acting clearly runs in the family, but the record does not say how much either sister had to do with the other’s casting.
What is certain is that the connection reaches beyond a one-off cameo. Kim’s appearance in Hollyoaks tied the Taylforth name to two different soaps, and it added a family layer to Gillian’s already well-known screen history. The unanswered part is simple enough: whether that shared soap link was just a coincidence, or the kind of sibling casting break that only happens once.
