The friction is that the old label has not gone away. Aviva still looks like a dividend stock first to many investors, but its wealth division is now approaching 10% of group earnings, and that share is what makes the transformation more than a marketing line. The company is still paying up to keep income investors interested while trying to change the engine underneath them.

That is why the next marker matters. Aviva's wealth division remains on track for its £280m profit ambition by 2027, and if it gets there, the group will have a stronger case that wealth and retirement are not side businesses but a central part of what Aviva is becoming. The open question is how quickly that contribution can grow from meaningful to decisive.
