won the opening Superbike race at the by 15.580 seconds, taking his sixth TT victory and stamping himself as the rider to beat after a delayed start to race week. finished second and , despite a fight for the runner-up spot, had to settle for third.

The result is the kind that turns a strong practice week into a statement. Harrison, who started third on the road, was already 4.8 seconds clear of Dunlop at the first timing line at Glen Helen and had stretched that to 12 seconds over Dunlop and Hickman after the opening lap on the 37.73-mile course. By the time he reached Ramsey on lap two, his advantage had grown to 20 seconds, and after the second-lap pit stops it was 28 seconds. He later toured the circuit at an average of 134.892mph from a standing start on his opening lap, underlining the pace that made him the fastest rider in final qualifying and the man who had already logged a 135mph lap in practice.

Hickman, who had been injured in a crash at last year's TT, kept Harrison honest enough to finish 12.416 seconds clear of Dunlop, but the closing order still told the story of the race. Dunlop, who arrives at the Mountain Course with a record 33 TT wins, fought hard for second and could not find a way past Hickman. and John McGuinness were also in the top five, with McGuinness running a special livery to mark the 30th anniversary of his debut.

The race mattered because weather had already pushed back the opening race day, making this the headline event the meeting had been waiting for. Harrison said he had gone hard at the start to build a buffer and felt strong all week, but he also admitted how hard it is to keep concentration over six laps on a course where the punishment never stops. The next test comes on Saturday in the , where Harrison will go in as favourite, along with the two Superstock races, even though the first Superstock contest still has not been rescheduled after its postponement from Saturday.

For now, Harrison has the clearest possible answer to the field that had spent practice trying to catch him. The question is whether he can turn one dominant Sunday into a week that belongs to him.
