That has made Hartenstein a search term for anyone tracking the series, and for good reason. The eighth-year pro has been one of Oklahoma City’s key pieces even when his work does not always jump off the stat sheet, and his production has been steady through 13 playoff games: 9.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.8 blocks while shooting 67% from the field.
The matchup has also put him toe-to-toe with Victor Wembanyama, a test that has shaped how the Thunder use him. Hartenstein logged only 12 total minutes in Game 1 of a double-overtime opener, but he settled in after that and averaged 9.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists during Games 2, 3 and 4. He also played more than 30 minutes only once in that stretch, which is part of why the numbers do not always tell the whole story about his role.
There is recent evidence, though, that Hartenstein can still move the board in Oklahoma City’s favor. He had snagged at least nine rebounds in six of his previous nine meetings with San Antonio and scored at least ten points in three of the last four games of the series. The Thunder have also used a double-big look with Chet Holmgren at times, and Hartenstein’s minutes and touches have fluctuated inside that setup.
For bettors, the question is not whether Hartenstein matters. It is whether his rebound-and-efficiency profile travels again into San Antonio when the margin for error is gone. If he keeps clearing the glass and finishing at the same rate, Oklahoma City’s path gets cleaner fast, and the next result in this series will say whether that edge holds when the Spurs are playing to survive.
